Yeah, there is a built in antibot feature but still there are bots registering just don't know how did they bypass those picasso images in captcha. But I must say that the number of bots is lower than before so its kind of success.
There will be more other restrictions later probably

Are you guys talking about the bots in the user index thing like Google [Bot] because if you are those always come with phpBB3 they are a default and once you start to get more and more posts they visit more often and they crawl your forum and index all your forum on their search engine.

no we are not talking about the search bots but we are talking about spam bots
now i have seen that there had been a change in working of spam bots they can get thru captcha and as well as i noticed on here and dnt and some other sites that they now have an avatar and also apologizes before spamming a thread

Bots are basically automated scripts or softwares. Some are developed to get you benefit and some are just made for marketing.
Some spam bots can be programmed to bypass the captcha on registration and that is what is bad. For example this forum has now one of the most advanced captcha modules in PHPBB but still some spam bots keep to go through it. Some people work very hard on bot development becouse it is some kind of the modern marketing. They are basicially the artificial intelligence which make your site visits, create forum posts, make your articles, manage your site etc.
